2018 United Way campaign FAQ

What are the two ways of giving?

Payroll deduction: via your cell or computer, you can sign up for a specific amount to be deducted for donations each of the 24 pay periods.

  • Step 1: Send a new text message to 40403
  • Step 2: Type Pacific and press "send"
  • Step 3: Click the link in the reply message to fill out your pledge form  

One-time gift. With your credit card, you can have your donation taken out all in one payment.

When does the campaign start and end?

Pacific's United Way campaign is active now. It will end on Nov. 28, the last day of the university's open enrollment period for selection of benefits. Give now to qualify for all of the early bird drawings!   

What are the Pacific campaign's goals?

$125,000 in total giving and 500 participants  

Is there a process for Pacific students to donate to United Way?

Students can give through the online giving platform using their debit or credit cards. They can text the keyword "tigers" to the number 40403 to gain access to the online pledge form.   

Can you designate your gift to a specific nonprofit?

Yes, you can designate to any eligible 501c3 organization. Viiew the list of United Way's Agency Partners and Community Impact Grant Recipients.

For funds not designated to an agency, how does United Way determine which nonprofits will receive funding?

United Way volunteers invest your contributions in local programs that are proven to make our community stronger and safer, helping people to live better lives. With your contribution, United Way analyzes community needs, invests in local nonprofits, builds awareness of important issues, creates partnerships and develops prevention-based programs aimed at stemming problems before they take root.  

Will there be drawings for gifts for those who give in the Pacific United Way Campaign?

Yes there will be multiple drawings, including parking passes, sports tickets and more. Watch for details each week  in the Pacific Insider.  

What percentage of donations does United Way use for administration and overhead?

United Way of San Joaquin County always discloses that there is a 15% fee on designations made directly by the recipient.  

If I live and work for Pacific in the Bay Area or Sacramento region, will my donations go to those United Ways or to San Joaquin County?

You can select which United Way you would like your donations to go to:

  • United Way Bay Area
  • United Way California Capital Region
  • United Way of San Joaquin
