Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at University of the Pacific. Our ACS-accredited department at the University of the Pacific has a long-standing tradition of student-centered education.

We offer classes in the core-curriculum of majors in chemistry, biochemistry, pre-pharmacy, pre-dentistry, pre-medicine, biology, physics, physical therapy and engineering. In addition, we encourage our majors to take advantage of the chance to work one-on-one with our faculty on research projects.

Students earning chemistry or biochemistry degrees at Pacific can expect to receive training in all practical laboratory skills. These skills give our students confidence and a competitive edge as they enter the workplace or pursue graduate degrees. Senior students (BS) compete very well nationally for admission to the best professional schools and are very competitive in the employment market after graduation. Our graduate students (MS/PhD) have secured leading positions in industry and academia nationally and internationally.

The Stauffer Charitable Trust Challenge
In 2013, the Chemistry Department at University of the Pacific was awarded a $500,000 challenge from the John Stauffer Charitable Trust to enhance research opportunities for undergraduate students majoring in chemistry and biochemistry. Find out how you can help the Chemistry Department rise to the challenge.>>

In addition to classroom learning, students have many opportunities to gain hands-on experience in our laboratories. Our faculty care deeply about the students at Pacific and are available inside and outside the classroom. We hope you will explore our web pages to learn more about the Chemistry Department. You can find out what students have to say about our program on the Our Students page. Please do not hesitate to contact the department directly for any remaining questions.
