Transit and Paratransit Management Certificate Program

Enhance your career potential through this challenging certificate program!

Measuring efficiency, assessing effectiveness, developing performance measures, business plans, managing risk, and strategic planning are important management tools for evaluating the health of transportation service and insuring its long-term growth into the future. Is your transit agency, service agency, or transportation organization in better financial shape today then it was two years ago? Are your costs per passenger, per hour, per mile, per ride, increasing or decreasing? Is your ridership going up or down? More importantly, regardless of the answers to those questions, as you assess the current state of your agency do you understand why those factors and others are changing, and are you able to forecast and influence those changes?

"A great way to learn from the top people in the field - and from your peers too!" -Betty Bierly, Pomona Valley Transportation Authority

Probably not, unless you have had years of experience and on-the-job training as a transportation management professional.

The problem in the industry today is that operators do not have the luxury of being able to have their management staff in training. As transit managers are hired they are immediately expected to contribute to the management and other tasks of running the organization.

Recognizing the current state of the industry in that regard, a number of private and public industry groups began discussing the problems of management development. Those discussions led to them forming a partnership to develop a Transit/Paratransit Management Training Program. The certificate program, which is now being supported by University of the Pacific Westgate Center for Leadership and Management Development, is geared to the management and future managers of rural, small, and medium sized transit agencies, human service organizations, or private operators.
