Jesper Kasanen  - Chief Executive Officer & Technology Sector Senior Analyst

Jesper Kasanen is a senior completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a Minor in Computer Science at the University of the Pacific. In addition to the fund, Jesper is a member of the University of the Pacific men's division 1 golf team. In the fall of 2017, Jesper held a Junior Analyst position in the Healthcare sector of SIF. Currently, Jesper is the CEO and Technology Sector Senior Analyst of the fund. Upon graduation, Jesper is excited to pursue a career within the financial services industry, preferably in financial technology or investment banking, and to further his studies of finance and computer science.

Angad Randhawa  - Chief Investment Officer & Financials Sector Analyst

Angad Randhawa is a senior currently pursuing a Bachelors of the Science degree with a concentration in Finance.  Prior to working in the Fund, Angad has experience in Entrepreneurship, specifically start-ups, from his founding role in a small technology hardware company in Taiwan and other ventures.  This is his first semester in the Eberhardt Student Investment Fund as works towards a career in Finance.  Upon graduation, Angad would like to pursue a CFA Level 1 certification and a career in Investments, in addition to working towards his MBA.  Angad Randhawa is currently serving as the Chief Investment Officer and analyst for the Financials Sector.

Tianyu (Roy) Xie - Chief Operating Officer & Consumer Discretionary Sector Analyst

Tianyu (Roy) Xie is currently a senior at University of the Pacific pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance. Roy is an international student from China who had working experience in securities companies and SZ stock exchange in China. This is his sixth year in the US and second semester in the Student Investment Fund, and he currently holds the position of Consumer Discretionary Sector analyst. Roy wants to obtain more experience in finance and eventually set foot into primary markets in China/America.

Noor Harara Chief Marketing Officer & Healthcare Sector Analyst

An avid learner who focuses on producing results. During her first semester in the Fund, Noor is serving as the Chief Marketing Officer and Junior Analyst in the Healthcare Sector. She is currently the Vice President of Beta Alpha Psi, where she supports and encourages members in their pursuit of success in accounting, finance, and information systems. She is on track to receive her Masters in Accounting in 2019. After graduation, Noor plans on getting the CPA license with hopes of becoming a forensic accountant. Her tenacious attitude and grit are a couple of qualities she manifests.

Mateo Leon - Executive Administrator & Energy Sector Analyst

Mateo Leon is currently a Junior at University of the Pacific pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Finance and MIS. He is also a student-athlete playing for Pacific Men's Golf team. Mateo is passionate about exploring the arbitrage opportunities within the capital markets. He is interested in pursuing a career in financial management and banking. Mateo is currently serving as an executive administrator and junior analyst focused on the Energy industry.

Miles MacKenzie Portfolio Manager & Consumer Staples Sector

Miles MacKenzie is senior studying Business Administration with a concentration in Economics. He is the captain of Pacific's Men's Swim Team and this is his second semester in the fund. He is serving as the portfolio manager and a senior analyst in charge of the Consumer Staples Sector. After graduating in May, Miles plans to start work with The Clorox Company in Oakland as a Financial Analyst.

Benson Lim - Assistant Portfolio Manager & Technology Sector Analyst

Benson Lim is a third-year student at the University of the Pacific pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and MIS. This is his first semester in the fund and he is serving as a technology sector analyst and assistant portfolio manager. Benson aims to learn about finance and gain real world experience with SIF.  Aside from finance, Benson also has a passion for basketball, photography, cars and all types of animals.

Joyce Cheng - Economist & Industrials Sector Analyst

Joyce Cheng is a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Finance at University of the Pacific. She currently holds the Economist and Industrial analyst position in the Student Investment Fund. Joyce is also part of multiple organizations and honor societies on campus, including the social sorority Alpha Phi and the Business Honors Society Beta Gamma Sigma. Joyce joined SIF out of her strong passion for Finance, and she plans on utilizing skills developed from her experience with SIF for her future career path as a Financial Consultant.

Bob Groenendijk - Economist & Utilities Sector Analyst

Bob Groenendijk is a senior pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. Bob is an international student from the Netherlands and is also a division 1 student-athlete playing soccer at Pacific. This is his first semester in the Student Investment Fund; he is holding the position of Utilities Sector analyst and he is serving as the fund Economist. He plans to obtain his MBA with a concentration in Finance.

Javier Mexicano - Risk Management Officer & Financials Sector Analyst

Javier Mexicano is currently majoring in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Economics. He is from Stockton and has lived there since he was 7 years old. It is his first semester with the Student Investment Fund (SIF) where he works as the Risk Management Officer, COO Assistant, and financial sector analyst to further his knowledge about financial markets and their relation to the economy. Outside of the fund and classes, Javier also works as an intern for the Center for Business and Policy Research where he uses the opportunity to gain experience of how to solve economic questions and different way to approach them to get a clear picture of economics at works and how to better the economy while balancing fairness and results. Upon graduation, he will look for opportunities in financial analysis to ultimately become a financial or portfolio manager.

Wouter Verstraaten - Information Officer & REIT Sector Analyst

Wouter Verstraaten is a senior, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business Finance. Wouter is an international student from the Netherlands. He is also a division 1 student-athlete playing soccer at Pacific. This is Wouter's first semester in the Student Investment Fund where he serves as the Information Officer and REIT sector analyst. Upon graduation in December 2018, he plans to play professional soccer or pursue a career as a financial analyst.

Axelle Steffen - Marketing Assistant & Materials Sector Analyst

Axelle Steffen is a senior, pursuing a Bachelors degree in International Business. Axelle is an international student from Belgium. She is also a Division 1 student athlete playing field hockey at Pacific.  This is Axelle's first semester in the Student Investment Fund where she serves as the Marketing Assistant and Materials Sector analyst.  Upon graduation in May 2018, she plans to obtain her MBA at pacific.

Julian Rippert - Industrials Sector Analyst

Julian Rippert is a junior currently pursuing a double concentration in International Business and Management Information Systems. He is currently a junior analyst within the fund, specializing in the industrials sector. In addition to the fund, Julian is currently the presidents of UOP's Pacific Investment Management Association, as well as the treasurer for the Pacific Student-Athletes Council. After graduating Julian is planning on pursuing a career in either wealth or portfolio management.

Josue Serrano - Social Media Coordinator & Discretionary Sector Analyst

Josue Serrano is a junior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. This is his first semester in the Student Investment Fund. He holds positions as Consumer Discretionary Sector Analyst and Social Media Coordinator. Josue has a huge interest for financial markets and is enjoying his time in the fund.

Ben Carlston, PhD - Faculty Advisor

Expertise: Empirical Asset Pricing; Financial Economics; Applied Econometrics. Ben Carlston is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Eberhardt School of Business. Dr. Carlston received his Ph.D. in Economics, with an emphasis on Financial Econometrics, from Duke University.

During his time at Duke University, Dr. Carlston taught undergraduate courses in Corporate Finance, Investments, and Intermediate Microeconomics. He is currently engaged in research evaluating the accuracy of several stock price volatility measures that rely on high frequency price data. His other research focuses on better understanding liquidity risk and volatility risk and their link to expected stock returns and macroeconomic variables.
