William Castillo Guardado '10 ~ Program Associate, Vera Institute of Justice

Will Castillo  

Will joined Vera in October 2014 as a Program Associate for the Unaccompanied Children Program. Previously, he worked as a research consultant at the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies (CGRS) in San Francisco, where he worked on issues involving unaccompanied children, gang-based asylum claims, and gender violence in Central America. Part of his time at CGRS was spent in Tajikistan and Afghanistan, where he conducted a training to lawyers and law students on best practices for working with survivors of gender-based violence. During law school, Will provided direct legal assistance to immigrants during an internship at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, and was a senior articles editor for the Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal. He earned his JD from UC Hastings College of the Law, and a BA from the University of the Pacific, with majors in international relations and Japanese and a minor in anthropology.
