From Passive to Present: Structuring Courses That Invite Attention and Interaction
James Lang writes that “attention is an achievement.” Attending carefully to one thing (like a class or a department meeting) requires sustained effort, and the success of our efforts is influenced by many features of our environments and our psychology. In this workshop, we’ll reflect on what kinds of situations are conducive to focused attention, then identify ways to support students in their attentional efforts.
