California’s first university announced Thursday plans to open a new School of Medicine in Stockton, a move aimed at addressing the growing shortage of physicians in underserved regions across the state.
The school is expected to open in fall 2030 and would be built around a new 100,000-square-foot medical education facility on Pacific’s Stockton Campus.
The Pacific School of Medicine is estimated to cost $150 million, will include a 100,000-square-foot medical education complex, simulation labs and other specialized equipment.
The Pacific School of Medicine will be California’s first MD-granting institution outside of the state’s largest population centers.
The school is designed to tackle the severe shortage of doctors across the region.
