"Migration sensation: Painted lady butterflies pass through Lodi area," Lodi News-Sentinel (Paywall), March 23, 2019: Biological sciences' Ryan Hill was quoted in this story about the migration of the painted lady butterfly. "A number of factors are attributed to the larger population that we see migrating from the southeast towards the northwest (this season)," Hill told the News-Sentinel. "Although the large swarm we are seeing currently is not directly linked to weather, this species of butterfly is known to thrive in the rain. Due to the rainfall, it has allowed the plants to thrive, which provides caterpillars with the food needed during their transformation from larvae to butterfly. ... We are not certain of their migration patterns, because there is little research on the painted lady butterflies because of the degree of difficulty in locating and tracking this specific species of butterfly." News-Sentinel subscribers can find the full story on its website.

"For a community this size to have not only one of the longest-surviving orchestras in California, when so many went under in financial hard times, Stockton hung in there strongly and has a fine orchestra made up of fine professional players. And Peter Jaffe is a wonderful addition to Stockton. He's a wonderful conductor, funny, a natural entertainer and a brilliant musician. It's always a treat working with Peter and the orchestra."

"Francke: Sunshine Week, Your Right to Know," Voice of OC, March 14, 2019: McGeorge alumnus Terry Francke authored this opinion piece to offer ways for people to advance their rights. "You don't have to be a lawyer, lobbyist or policy wonk to make improvements in how open your city council, county supervisors, school board or special district directors' meetings are, or in public access to government information," wrote Francke. "Californians Aware will be happy to help and to report the results of your project(s)."
