Provost Faculty Administrative Leadership Program

Provost Faculty Administrative Leadership Program

The Provost is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Provost Faculty Administrative Leadership Program (PFAL) for academic year 2019-20.

Provost Faculty Administrative Leadership Program
Fostering faculty leaders at Pacific who are interested in higher education administration is integral to the future of Pacific. Pacific is committed to developing capable leaders in higher education who are interested in being a catalyst for change. To this end, the Provost established the Provost Faculty Administrative Leadership program (PFAL) in spring of 2018. The current Faculty Fellow, Todd Davenport is working to develop an undergraduate health curriculum grounded in the humanities and social sciences.

By working on specific projects important to advancing Pacific, the PFAL program provides an opportunity for senior faculty members to expand their knowledge of priorities in the Academic Division and understand how universities adapt to confront the challenges facing higher education today.

Fellows will have an opportunity to:
• Develop leadership and administrative skills
• Familiarize themselves with university-wide academic initiatives, strategic planning, budget management and current trends in higher education
• Meet with senior level administrators, observe and attend meetings within the Office of the Provost
• Participate in professional development conferences
• Under the supervision of the Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs, undertake a jointly agreed upon project, designed collaboratively to reflect individual interests and long term career goals and of importance to the academic division and university.

Eligibility
All full-time tenured faculty who have achieved the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and non-tenure track faculty who have taught at Pacific for more than five years are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to those with rank of Professor, in recognition that this status is often a prerequisite for consideration of advancement into administration.

Focus Area Initiatives 2019
Several academic administrative initiatives that support the goals of faculty development at Pacific are either ongoing, or ready to begin. To continue to support these initiatives, we are looking for a PFAL Fellow for one to two semesters with an option for a summer 2019 appointment.

Projects
Possible projects for this academic year include:
• Mid-Career Faculty Development - Develop the framework for faculty development at mid-career. The Fellow will investigate needs of faculty at mid-career and develop a plan to support mid-career faculty to achieve their academic goals.
• Mutually agreed upon project to enhance operations in the Office of the Provost to accomplish strategic goals.

Expectations and compensation
Faculty Fellows are eligible for a one course release or comparable compensation, per semester during their appointment and will be required to attend at least one professional development conference selected in collaboration with the Provost and designee. Fellows will develop a work plan for the term of the fellowship and complete a final report at the end of the fellowship.

Appointment
This is a 20% appointment and fellows will maintain the remaining effort in their home department

Application
• Letter of interest (no more than two pages) describing the faculty members interest in the Fellowship and how their background and skills are a potential fit with this opportunity.
• Current curriculum vita
• Endorsement letter from their department chair (if applicable) and from their dean.
• Applicant must be a full time faculty member
