powell art: personal marks turns the scholarly and personal lenses of four Powell Scholars on art from the Robert and Jeannette Powell collection. The exhibition features seven pieces from the Powells' gift to the University in conversation with interpretive projects created by the scholar curators.

Using frameworks from their own disciplines and interests, Powell Scholars Leah Brent, Imani Jaldin-Hartsough, Josephine Kinlan, and Emily Padilla have created novel interpretations to help visitors better understand and appreciate the art. The curators are in dialog with work by Jasper Johns, Sam Francis, Jake Berthot, Ruth Rippon, Wayne Thiebaud, and Joe Draegert as well as each other, creating intersectional meaning through contrast and continuity.

This exhibition was produced in collaboration with University Curator Lisa Cooperman, the Department of Art, Media, Performance, and Design, and the ongoing support of the Powell Advisory Board.
