Live Webinar: Geriatric Medicine and Dentistry
09:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Essential Information to Make Your Practice Senior Friendly
The population of the United States is becoming much older and senior citizens represent a large financial aspect of your practice. These patients want to regain and preserve function through implants and preventive dentistry. This lecture will lay the groundwork to make your practice welcoming to geriatric patients.
As the senior population represents the highest use of medications, their changing physiology will be discussed and polypharmacy and herbal supplements will be highlighted. Medical conditions which can influence your dental treatments will also be presented. Office design, marketing and communication will be addressed.
Additionally, Dr. Wiseman will discuss treating older patients as they develop multiple morbidities such as Parkinson’s disease and dementia. Areas often seen in older patients with complex medical histories include xerostomia and oral fungal infections. The treatment and transfer from wheelchairs will be discussed and the care of older patients near death will be explained. This course is an essential primer for dentists interested in providing oral health care to geriatric patients.
