Dugoni School of Dentistry and Delta Dental of California are pleased to present our 13th collaborative program designed to provide you with the best in continuing dental education. This year’s program will focus on endodontics, oral ulcerative conditions and erosive tooth wear. The three speakers will discuss the latest concepts, techniques and methodologies in their fields of expertise. Our goal is to offer you practical, useful and clinically relevant information that can be easily incorporated into your practice. 3D Endodontic Diagnosis and Treatment PlanningAdham Azim, BDS, DDS Advanced 3D imaging such as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is rapidly becoming a more common tool in dentistry, particularly in endodontics. CBCT is now used in more than 50% of endodontic practices and is utilized to assist in the diagnosis of complex clinical cases that are often misdiagnosed using periapical radiographs. It also plays an important role in treatment planning and outcome assessment. In this lecture, Dr. Azim will present several clinical scenarios in which CBCT was instrumental in properly diagnosing and executing the treatment. He will also present the most current literature supporting the use of CBCT in everyday practice. You Will Learn To understand the limitations of 2D radiographs in endodontic treatment To recognize the value of integrating CBCT into your day-to-day practice To utilize CBCT imaging for diagnosis and treatment planning A Systematic Approach to the Evaluation, Diagnosis and Treatment of Oral Ulcerative Conditions Darren Cox, DDS, MBA Although many different oral ulcerative conditions and diseases have similar clinical appearances, etiologies are many and include: traumatic, reactive, infectious, immunologic or neoplastic scenarios. Some ulcerative conditions are always preceded by a blister, while others characteristically are not. During this lecture, Dr. Cox will discuss how to best evaluate, diagnose and treat these conditions. He will cover the key factors for narrowing a differential diagnosis and determining an appropriate course of action for attaining a definitive diagnosis and treatment for your patients. You Will Learn To recognize oral ulcerative lesions and oral vesiculobullous diseases To prepare a differential diagnosis based on clinical findings To develop a differential diagnosis based on systemic correlations, medical and medication history and additional patient demographic information To understand appropriate treatment options for oral ulcerative conditions once a definitive diagnosis has been obtained Acid Attack: How to Diagnose and Manage Erosive Tooth WearRebecca Moazzez, BDS, MSc, PhD This lecture program will focus on erosive tooth wear (ETW), its prevalence and why it is important to diagnose and treat. Dr. Moazzez will discuss the etiology, source of acids, methods of detection and diagnosis of the conditions. She will also examine the risk factors and introduce the basic ETW index. Participants will learn how to use the index in their practices. There will be a discussion about various medical conditions associated with ETW and the function of saliva and pellicle. Lastly, the presentation will include the concept of minimally invasive management of ETW. You Will Learn To recognize the etiology of erosive tooth wear To detect and diagnose ETW and to use the basic ETW index To analyze the role of saliva and pellicle in ETW To understand the role of medical conditions in ETW How to integrate minimally invasive management of ETW into patient care Who Should Attend This informative program is designed for dentists and all team members in the office.
