Follett selected to operate University of the Pacific bookstores

University of the Pacific has selected Follett Higher Education Group Inc., higher education's largest campus retailer, to operate Pacific's bookstores and other services starting July 8. The transition from Pacific's current operator, Barnes & Noble, has been taking place the past several weeks to streamline services to the university community. The last day of operation for Barnes & Noble will be June 29. The bookstore on the Stockton Campus will be closed June 30–July 8, when it will reopen under Follett. The Sacramento Campus bookstore will close July 11 and reopen July 18.

This new partnership will provide students and faculty enhanced access to academic materials and an improved selection of affordable textbook-buying options through new, used, rental and digital book sources.

Pacific issued a request for proposals in November 2018 and a committee of students, faculty and staff evaluated submissions. Follett was chosen for its proposal to create affordable course materials solutions and a store experience that is inviting to the campus community. Follett operates 1,200 campus stores and more than 1,600 virtual stores and serves more than half of all college students nationwide.
