Restarting Pacific's dive program a ‘dream opportunity’ for new coach Amy Kay

Amy Kay
With the reinstatement of men’s and women’s diving at University of the Pacific, Amy Kay is stepping up to lead the way.
Kay, a diver for over 20 years, arrived at Pacific after coaching stints at the University of La Verne, Occidental College and Azusa Pacific University over the last three years. She will work alongside head coach Katelyne Herrington, the 2025 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men’s Coach of the Year.
"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to lead this Pacific diving program," Kay said. "Restarting Pacific's dive program is a dream opportunity, and I'm excited to build a team that's strong, cohesive and an asset to the Pacific swim team."
Diving is part of the over-arching swimming and diving program at Pacific, which competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The Tigers are the reigning champions on the men’s side and will get a boost by the addition of diving, which creates the opportunity to score more points.
"We're excited to welcome Amy Kay to our program," Herrington said. "From the start, it was clear she was a great culture fit, someone who truly values the student-athlete experience and takes a process-driven approach to coaching. Kay also brings strong local connections that will help us grow and strengthen our diving program. We're lucky to have her on board and can't wait to see the impact she will make in the upcoming years."
Kay's diving and coaching journey began with the Sacramento-based Capital Divers from 2012-19, planning and executing conditioning practices to improve athletes' coordination and skills.
Kay made her collegiate coaching debut when she joined Occidental College's staff for the 2022-23 season. In her first season as the diving coach, all of the team’s divers scored points at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, including a top eight performance from Callie Rice.
In her most recent coaching role at Azusa Pacific, Kay ran the diving program—creating conditioning programs and workouts while guiding athletes through technical diving and injury recovery.
As an undergrad, Kay committed to dive at Western Kentucky University. After one year, she transferred to Azusa Pacific where she was a Division II All-American for three years.
Kay graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Azusa Pacific in 2021.
