Next Tuesday, Nov. 6, is Election Day for the next general election. University of the Pacific encourages all individuals eligible to vote to participate in this important privilege of American citizenship.

Where to vote
Your assigned polling place is indicated on your ballot, or can be found on the website for your county's registrar of voters. Visit the websites for the Office of the Registrar of Voters for San Joaquin County, Sacramento County and San Francisco County for information on voting and registering in those counties, including locations of polling places. Websites and contact information for all California county elections offices are listed on the California Secretary of State website.

Voter shuttle on Stockton Campus
As part of its efforts to encourage members of the campus community to vote, ASuop has arranged for a campus shuttle service on Election Day to transport students, faculty and staff from the Stockton Campus to the polling place at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 2737 Pacific Avenue. The Pacific Shuttle will depart from Burns Tower every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are required. 

In addition, ASuop will be holding an Election Results Party that same evening from 7:30 p.m. to midnight in the Lair. There will be raffles, giveaway items, news coverage and food promotions from Bon Appetit. This event is open to faculty, staff and students, no RSVP required.

Vote-by-mail ballots
Vote-by-mail ballots that are mailed must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by your county elections office no later than three days after Election Day. If you are not sure your vote-by-mail ballot will arrive in time if mailed, bring it to any polling place or voting center in the state between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Election Day. The closest polling place to University of the Pacific campuses are:

• Stockton Campus — Unitarian Universalist Church at 2737 Pacific Avenue.
• Sacramento Campus — Oak Park Community Center at 3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
• San Francisco Campus — Yerba Buena Center for the Arts - Grand Lobby at 701 Mission St. 

In addition, Sacramento County and San Joaquin County have vote-by-mail drop boxes where you can turn in your vote-by-mail ballot. Details and information about the drop boxes are available on the websites of the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters and the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters.

California Initiative Review
Each year, McGeorge School of Law Capital Center for Law and Policy produces the California Initiative Review (CIR), a non-partisan, objective Web publication which provides comprehensive, independent analyses of California Ballot initiatives and related issues and the shorter California Initiative Review at-a-glance. McGeorge law students presented their analyses at the California Initiative Forum 2018 on Oct. 24, which is available for viewing online.

Voter registration information
In California, the deadline to register to vote is 15 days prior to Election Day, which for this election was Oct. 22. The deadline for registered voters to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot was Oct. 30.

After a voter registration deadline has passed, in most elections, you can visit your county elections office, a vote center, or a satellite office designated by your county elections official to conditionally register to vote and vote a provisional ballot. Once your county elections official processes your affidavit of registration, determines your eligibility to register and validates your information, your registration becomes permanent and your provisional ballot will be counted. For more information, please refer to Conditional Voter Registration.
