2D Art Studio

Materials & Meaning

Pacific's Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design is offering a 2D Arts Studio Camp. In this intensive two-week course, students will explore a variety of 2D media practices, developing skills that will enhance their creative expression of meaningful and personal visual content. Students will settle into our inspiring facilities for their time in-residence; taking over the drawing, painting and printmaking studios to produce a body of work inspired by their own personal narratives. The students will showcase their final work in an exhibition and celebratory reception at Pacific’s Reynolds Gallery.

Curriculum

Students will develop an understanding of image-making techniques and methods used to convey personal and poetic meaning. Utilizing 2D composition and design principles, a variety of mark-making methodologies inherent to painting, printmaking and illustration techniques, students will focus on the evolution of a series of works that are visually dynamic and interconnected through the discovery of their own personal narratives.

Planned Topics

Course topics will be interconnected and likely include:

  • Printmaking | Intaglio, relief, monotype, cyanotype and/or transfer prints
  • Painting & Illustration | Color and image explorations with water-based paint and inks
  • Drawing | Understanding the dynamics of visual composition and art historical referencing
  • Mind Mapping | Understanding the evolution of ideas, along with the power of self-reflection and personal inspiration
  • Exhibition | Curate and install artwork in a professional gallery and write an artist statement
  • Digital Process Portfolio | Create an annotated digital portfolio of your work using Canva

Jill Vasileff is a visual artist who lives and works in Stockton, California. She has exhibited internationally in New York, California, Detroit, Washington DC, Connecticut, Germany, France and the Netherlands; with K-12 & college-level teaching residencies in France, Denmark, California, New York and Michigan. Since 2007, she has been an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design at University of the Pacific, teaching Two-Dimensional Design, Three-Dimensional Design, Painting, Printmaking and Visual Arts Exploration.
