Pacific is only one of two private universities in California whose officers have full police officer authority, giving them the ability to focus on keeping the university community safe, 24/7. On each of our campuses in Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco, we provide protection, services and education to ensure a safe place for our students, faculty, staff and guests, to live, study, work and visit. Through the department's strategic approach to campus safety and the outstanding work or our officers, Pacific's crime statistics are among the lowest of our peer institutions.

See Something, Say Something

The See Something Say Something program is modeled after Homeland Security's program. It is designed to encourage members of the community to become the eyes and ears of Pacific in order to provide information that keeps university a safe learning environment. Please report any suspicious activity to Public Safety. Remember it is not what an individual is wearing or how they look but the activity they are involved in that we want reported. It sometimes can be difficult to define. Just take your time to pay attention to behaviors. Know the difference between normal and abnormal behavior. Does the activity look strange to you?

This includes but is not limited to: bullying, intimidation, harassment, vandalism, theft, stalking, trying door handles, looking into cars. When in doubt, call Public Safety at 209.946.3911 (emergency) or 209.946.2537 Police dispatch.

STRIPE

The STRIPE Transport and Escort Service provides both cart and walking escort to students on the Stockton Campus and extends the presence of the University Police through additional responsibilities such as providing door unlocks and lock-ups based on schedule or dispatched assignment. The STRIPE unit is composed of trained student employees. 

Hours of Operation

  • Spring & Fall: 7 days a week, 6 p.m.–2 a.m.
  • Summer: 7 days a week, 6–11 p.m.

STRIPE units are dispatched from Public Safety in the Cowell Wellness Center (1041 Brookside Rd). They also patrol campus in a grey shirt, black pants uniform and are in radio contact with Public Safety Dispatch. They can be dispatched for door unlocks/locks, vehicle jump-starts and building check-outs.

    • Preferred method: Text STRIPE at 209.624.8747 and give your name, location, number in party and destination.
    • Flag down STRIPE when you see them operating on campus.
    • You can also call Public Safety Dispatch at 209.946.2537, during or after the noted service hours.

    On the Sacramento Campus, Public Safety Officers are available to escort students and staff members to and from campus parking lots, offices and campus residences. 

    To request a Safe Walk escort, call 916.739.7200 or contact the attendant on duty at the Law Library circulation desk.

    Emergency Blue Light Phones

    If you ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe when you are walking around campus, just look for the nearest emergency blue light phone. Posted in various places throughout the Stockton and Sacramento campuses they will connect you immediately to Pacific's Public Safety officers who will immediately respond to assist you.

    Familiarize yourself with the locations of these phones when you are walking around campus, so you will know the nearest location should you ever need to use this resource.

    Pacific's Department of Public Safety welcomes suggestions and valid complaints about its service or personnel from local citizens. Your constructive comments provide an open channel of communication between Public Safety and the campus community. They help us protect the campus community from possible misconduct, and to provide a basis for a thorough and impartial investigative procedure.

    It is the policy of the University of the Pacific Department of Public Safety, and the law, to accept and thoroughly investigate all complaints concerning the conduct of its personnel or operations, and to make available to the public a written description of its complaint procedure in compliance with California Penal Code section 832.5(a)

    Please review the Citizen Complaint Advisement below prior to registering any complaint.

    • Complaints or suggestions can be made in person in the Public Safety Office in the lower level of the Cowell Wellness Center.
    • Complaints or suggestions may be made by phone at 209.946.2537
    • Complaints can be emailed in writing to the Public Safety Office at the address listed on the complaint form.

    Citizen Complaint Advisement

    The following advisement is required by State Law: You have the right to make a complaint against a police officer or non sworn employee for any improper conduct. California law requires this agency to have a procedure to investigate citizens' complaints. You have a right to a written description of this procedure. This agency may find after the investigation, that there is not enough evidence to warrant action on your complaint; even if that is the case, you have the right to make the complaint and have it investigated if you believe an officer has behaved improperly. Citizen complaints and any reports or findings related to complaints must be retained by this agency for at least five years.

    Complaint Disposition

    Your complaint will be reviewed by the Director and will then be assigned to an investigator(s) for review. After completion of a thorough investigation the findings will be reviewed by the Director. You will be sent a letter stating the finding of the investigation.
