Leg Counsel: The Legislature's Lawyers
Leg Counsel: The Legislature's Lawyers
05:00 p.m. - 06:00 p.m.
Ever wondered what it would be like to work as an attorney representing the Legislature and Governor’s Office? The Office of Legislative Counsel has operated in state government for more than a century to assist the Legislature, the Governor and other state officers by providing nonpartisan legal services supporting the legislative process. Attorneys in the office:
- Draft bills, constitutional amendments, resolutions and proposed amendments to those measures
- Render legal opinions on issues of constitutionality, statutory interpretation and other legal matters
- Provide counsel to the Members and committees of the Legislature
- Represent the Senate and Assembly in litigation
- Provide legal services to the Governor
- Assist judges in the drafting of legislation
Join us in Classroom A for a conversation with McGeorge alums Principal Deputy Legislative Counsel Sharon Everett (‘07), Deputy Legislative Counsel Jess Gosney (‘17) and Deputy Legislative Counsel Amanda Kelly (‘16), who will speak with students, answer questions and offer insight into strategies for finding a Leg Counsel position. McGeorge 3L Omar Figueroa will also discuss his experience working for Leg Counsel as a law student to give you a sense of what to expect during an internship or summer experience.
Please RSVP to Professor O’Neal (eoneal@pacific.edu). We look forward to seeing you there!
