COVID-19 guidelines for students

Dear Pacific students,

We are excited to welcome you back to our campuses and to be together in person. Pacific takes great pride in providing an outstanding learning experience for our students and we have been working across our campuses to continue our health and safety practices. As we resume in-person classes and services, we want to share key information related to COVID-19 and university activities:

  • Pacific remains diligent and committed to compliance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations, both of which allow employee and student vaccination status to be shared on a need-to-know basis. Those considered need-to-know may include:
    • faculty instructors;
    • Human Resources staff;
    • supervisors who oversee faculty, staff, student workers, vendors/third party contractors, etc.;
    • academic/success advisors who provide direct services to students;
    • Student Health Center staff;
    • resident assistants (for students in residential housing);
    • Athletics staff for student-athletes; and
    • other relevant offices/individuals.
  • Faculty and others need to know the vaccination status of individuals they teach, advise, or assist to ensure compliance with university policy, Cal/OSHA, CDC and regional public health department requirements regarding masking and other health and safety precautions. Faculty and others with a need-to-know will receive a list of students in their classes and their vaccination status.
    • Need-to-know individuals may not re-disclose or share vaccination status information.
    • If any person’s unvaccinated/partially vaccinated status or related accommodations must be discussed, every reasonable effort must be made to ensure privacy.
    • Need-to-know individuals are not allowed to ask why an individual is unvaccinated.
  • On all campuses, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals are required to wear masks while indoors—including classes, labs, common areas, residence halls and other areas. Masks may be removed when eating/drinking and socially distanced (at least six feet) or in a room alone. Masks are not required outdoors on any Pacific campus, but individuals may choose to wear one. No member of the campus community may inquire why another individual wears a mask.
  • Following county Department of Public Health guidelines, Sacramento and San Francisco campuses currently require masks for all individuals when indoors and not in a room alone. Details for Sacramento can be found here. San Francisco’s update can be found here.
  • The Stockton campus currently does not require masks indoors for fully vaccinated individuals, except in some clinical settings (e.g. Student Health Center). Fully vaccinated individuals may choose to wear a mask indoors even if it is not required. Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals are required to wear masks while indoors.
  • Students who are not compliant with the COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan will be referred to the Dean of Students directly.
  • We ask all students to be diligent about following the Health and Safety Plan. Non-compliance may result in progressive discipline outlined in Tiger Lore and/or program-specific policy/guidelines.

Sincerely,

Maria Pallavicini
