Oyeniyi (Omo) Abe has extensive experience practicing and teaching human rights, corporate law, and commercial law across Africa, Europe, and North America. Dr. Abe has held visiting researcher positions at prominent institutions including the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism at McGill University in Canada, the Institute for Business Ethics at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, and the Canadian Institute of Resources Law. He also served as a Fulbright Scholar at Loyola University in Chicago, USA. Dr. Abe serves as a legal expert advising the Chair of the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group on a Legally Binding Instrument on Business and Human Rights at the United Nations Human Rights Council. He has authored numerous articles, book chapters, and academic essays on business and human rights, sustainable development, just transition, and natural resource management. Additionally, he has provided consultancy services to international organizations such as the World Bank and the African Union, advising on various development initiatives and human rights compliance. Dr. Abe currently serves on the Executive Council of the International Law Association (Nigerian Branch). He is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law, the Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Association, and the Business and Human Rights Teaching Forum.

He earned his PhD in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town, an LL.M. from the University of California, Berkeley, another LL.M. from Central European University in Hungary, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Benin, Nigeria. He is also a Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Higher Education Academy.
