Zhu Zhou ’14, PhD, earned her bachelor of pharmacy from China Pharmaceutical University in Nanjing, China and her bachelor of science in food science from University of Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand. She earned her doctor of philosophy in pharmaceutical and chemical sciences from University of the Pacific in 2014.

After completing her doctorate, she served as a research scientist in the Department of Pharmaceutics at the University of Washington and held an appointment with the Center for Drug Information and Natural Products. She returned to University of the Pacific in 2016 as a faculty member before accepting a faculty appointment at York College and the Graduate Center (CUNY) in 2019. While at CUNY, Dr. Zhou led multiple internal and external grants, including a National Institutes of Health (NIH) research grant. In recognition of her scholarly activities, she was awarded early tenure and promoted to tenured associate professor in 2023. She returned to Pacific in 2025.

Dr. Zhou serves as a standing member of the Drug Discovery and Molecular Pharmacology B Study Section (DMPB) at the NIH, as well as a reviewer and editorial board member for multiple journals. She holds leadership roles in several professional societies, including the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT), the NIH Sure resource center and the American Chinese Pharmaceutical Association. Dr. Zhou’s national recognitions include the 2022 National Institute on Aging Butler-Williams Scholar and the 2023 ASCPT Darrell Abernethy Early Stage Investigator Award. She has been invited to present at national and international conferences as well as companies.

Dr. Zhou believes in the transformative power of education and enjoys helping students discover their unique strengths. She is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists. In 2026, a trainee first-author paper developed under her mentorship, for which she served as corresponding author, received the 2026 Clinical and Translational Science Award from the ASCPT, recognizing outstanding trainee-authored research published in its official journalClinical and Translational Science.

She likes to travel and has studied in four different countries. She also enjoys reading and experiencing different cuisines from around the world.
