Jack Duran Jr., ’02, to kick off National Native American Heritage Month. Join us at 5 p.m. for refreshments and conversation, Q&A with Judge Duran to follow at 5:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!Judge Duran is a distinguished legal professional and community leader. Judge Duran is the grandson of first-generation Mexican immigrants and an affiliate with an El Paso, Texas Tribal Pueblo. Duran was the first in his family to graduate high school, college, and law school. He earned his law degree from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, where he graduated at the top of his class. Duran has since built a successful career specializing in federal Indian law, founding Duran Law Office, P.C. and earning notable victories in the California and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court.In addition to his legal work, Duran has served his community through eight years as a county supervisor for Placer County, District 1, and through his involvement in various nonprofit and educational boards. He also serves as Chief Judge for multiple tribes in California, Nevada, and South Dakota, and was named Chief Justice of the Oglala Sioux Tribe Supreme Court in 2021.
