Career fairs connect Pacific students with jobs, internships

Pacific career fairs give student the opportunity to meet employers face-to-face.

Career fairs connect Pacific students with jobs, internships

Three career fairs in early October drew more than 100 businesses to the Stockton Campus to showcase opportunities for internships and future careers and gave over 500 Pacific students a chance to speak with prospective employers in person.

On Oct. 3, the Career Resource Center hosted the Fall Career and Internship Fair, which featured careers of all kinds, followed by the Eberhardt School of Business "Meet the Firms" fair for students interested specifically in business-related careers. The following day, the School of Engineering and Computer Science Career Fair brought employers seeking to hire students for cooperative (co-op) internships in those fields.

"Meet the Firms was an awesome experience and also a great opportunity to connect with the hiring firms," said Chris Hall '20, a third-year business student. "I met representatives from many companies that I had only heard about on TV such as KPMG, Blue Diamond and Travelers."

More than 70 on-campus interviews took place right after the fairs, and some students have already landed internships. In addition to meeting employers, participants had professional portraits taken for their resumes and LinkedIn profiles and practiced their personal "elevator pitch" to ensure they make a good impression.

92.5 %

of 2017 graduates were employed, accepted to graduate or professional school, completing a post-graduate internship or working for a service organization six months
after graduation.

Margaret Roberts, director of the Eberhardt Career Management Center, has organized Meet the Firms for the past 15 years. She has seen firsthand students' professional growth as a result of attending these events during their time at Pacific and has watched their confidence blossom.

"It's so rewarding to see our students discover careers and employers that they may have never considered if not for these events where students and companies can connect," said Roberts.

Starting today, three more employer showcases will take place at Pacific for students in the Pharmacy, Physical Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology fields.

Career fairs are just one example of the many ways that Pacific prepares students for personal and professional success. Help writing resumes, mock interviews, etiquette dinners, workshops, and the career catwalk ─ a fashion show featuring business attire ─ are additional resources available to prepare students for landing that perfect internship or first job after college.
