Center for Community Involvement Individual Tutoring Program to be discontinued

The Individual Tutoring Program, a service of Pacific's Center for Community Involvement (CCI), will be discontinued after this semester (spring 2019).

The program relies on student tutors, who receive ongoing training and competitive wages above the minimum. In 2016, California passed legislation to increase the minimum wage annually; it will reach $15 per hour in 2022. After seeking alternative funding solutions for over a year, it was determined that the overall costs to maintain the program are no longer sustainable.

The CCI recognizes the impact this decision will have on the families who use the program, and it is committed to helping them find alternative educational enrichment programs in Stockton and San Joaquin County. This change also affects students who were planning to apply for tutoring positions next academic year, and CCI is providing them with information about university employment resources, including the Career Resource Center and Tiger Jobs.

The Center for Community Involvement will maintain its partnership with Stockton Unified School District and continue supporting other programs staffed by Pacific student tutors.
