Clarifying COVID-19 testing requirement

Dear Pacificans,

Welcome back! We are excited for all of us to be in-person again.

Our thanks to the Pacificans who have visited one of our COVID-19 testing clinics before starting school and work this week. We appreciate your time and your commitment to the health of our communities.

We have received many questions about our testing requirement and offer the following information:

Do I have to test on campus if I’ve tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days?
No. If you have tested positive following an FDA-approved test in the past 90 days, and are COVID-19 symptom free, you do not have to test at a Pacific clinic for 90 days from the date of the positive test/diagnosis. FDA-approved tests include iHealth and BinaxNOW at-home rapid tests, tests performed at any testing clinic including Pacific clinics, and tests performed by your health care provider.

What if I test positive somewhere other than a Pacific clinic?
Individuals who test positive somewhere other than a Pacific clinic should report their case to Human Resources (employees) and Student Life (students) as soon as possible.

What are the guidelines for isolating if I test positive?
If you test positive for COVID-19, please follow Pacific’s guidelines for isolation and quarantine. If you again test positive on day 5 or later, you should continue isolation through day 10. If symptom-free, testing to end isolation on day 10 is not recommended in most cases. (If you are moderately to severely immunocompromised, consult with your health care provider regarding the possibility of prolonged infection and follow their instructions on when to end isolation.)

What are Pacific’s COVID-19 testing requirements?
All Pacificans (except those who have tested positive in the past 90 days) are required to test on campus before the first time they return to their workplace or classroom, and then on a weekly basis until further notice. At this time, you must test once each week after returning to campus. Tests do not need to be seven days apart. So, if you did your initial test anytime the week before returning to campus, you may do your weekly test anytime the first week you are back.

Where/when can I get tested on Pacific’s campuses?
Testing is available on all three Pacific campuses. You may test at whichever campus is most convenient. Currently, the Stockton and Sacramento campus clinics are open Mon.–Sat. and the San Francisco campus clinic is open Mon.–Fri. View testing hours and locations on our website. Testing is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Should I test if I have COVID-19 symptoms?

  • Students who have COVID-19 symptoms should contact the Student Health Center to schedule an appointment for a test (Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.–4 p.m., 209.946.2315 Option 1; after hours 209.946.2315 Option 4). After-hours telehealth is available via phone or video appointment at LiveHealth Online.
  • Employees who have COVID-19 symptoms should contact their primary health care provider. Pacific will not test employees who are symptomatic.

What if I still have questions?
