Dugoni School Alumni Family Gathers in San Francisco for 120th Annual Alumni Meeting

March 7, 2019

The Dugoni School's Alumni Association celebrated a significant milestone when it held its 120th Annual Meeting March 1-2 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. Nearly 1,300 alumni, associates and friends attended the event, which is among the largest dental school alumni conferences held anywhere in the United States.

Attendees enjoyed continuing education courses presented by notable dental practitioners and educators. Other activities included class reunions, receptions, research table exhibits and commercial exhibitions and awards.

At the Friday alumni recognition lunch, Dr. Cindy Lyon '86 and Dr. Bruce Toy '81 were honored with the Medallion of Distinction - the association's highest honor. The distinction is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the school, the Alumni Association, the profession of dentistry or society in general. Dr. Colin Wong '65 was honored with the rare Arthur A. Dugoni Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given by the Alumni Association for exceptional achievement, commitment and service at a level above and beyond that represented by the Medallion of Distinction Award. The luncheon also included a dedication to Dr. Dale Redig, the sixth dean of the Dugoni School of Dentistry who recently passed away. Dr. David Chambers provided remarks about the life and legacy of the former dean.

Also at the lunch, the Alumni Association welcomed Dr. David Ehsan '95 as its new president as well as other newly elected board members. He follows in the footsteps of outgoing president Dr. Mary M. Turoff '77.

The annual Legacy Ball for supporters of the Dugoni School was held on Saturday night in the Mark Hopkins Hotel's historic Peacock Court Ballroom. A celebration of philanthropy, the event featured live music, dancing, dining and good company.

"A tradition like this alumni meeting doesn't just happen overnight, but has grown through many years of support from our alumni family," said Dean Nader A. Nadershahi '94 in his remarks to the crowd at the Alumni Recognition Luncheon. "It's just one of the many legacy events enjoyed by the Dugoni School family each year that creates the close sense of connection we all enjoy as graduates."
