Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Elham Sayyad-Abdi begins residency at Pacific

Dr. Elham "Ellie" Sayyad-Abdi, Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, has begun her residency at Pacific. She will be at Pacific for the entire 2018-19 academic year.

Sayyad-Abdi comes to Pacific from the Queensland University of Technology in Australia where she taught courses in the field of information science. She is an information researcher with an interest in improving people's information experience. Her research is pioneering the concept of information experience design (IXD), which is about designing and developing interventions for everyday life, such as services and programs, so users can engage with information more effectively. She is currently investigating how immigrants use information to learn about their new life.

While at Pacific, Sayyad-Abdi will work to enhance the experience of international and underserved students through faculty consultations at the Center for Teaching and Learning. She also will engage with the university and the local community through guest lectures and other talks. She will work with staff in the University Libraries to enrich technology experiences to support student learning, and she will teach a section of Pacific Seminars (PACS 1).

Don't miss her upcoming presentation on "Learning a New Life: A Migrant Information Literacy Framework" at the School of International Studies' Tuesday World Forum at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 11, in George Wilson Hall, which is also where her office is located. Pacific's Fulbright Scholar Liaison, Bill Herrin, director of the School of International Studies, is happy to make introductions.
