She was elected to the Stanislaus Superior Court with nearly 71 percent of the vote and was set to begin her term in January, but Gov. Jerry Brown appointed her to an interim term before her elected term was to begin. "Carrie Stephens comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience," Assistant Presiding Judge Dawna Reeves told The Modesto Bee. "She is exceptionally well qualified, and we are pleased with her interim appointment."

A business had appealed a Worker's Compensation Board order for it to pay for the marijuana an injured former worker found more effective than prescribed opioids. The court found the business would be violating a federal law if it was made to pay for marijuana.

The AHL's affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames will continue to work with Beyond Our Gates to recognize perfect attendance at Stockton schools. Students are rewarded with two free tickets to a Heat game. Pacific students work with the Heat to gain real-world experience by managing operations for a game.
