"Can Tracy and other Central Valley cities get onboard with 'smart growth'?," San Francisco Chronicle, Sept. 20, 2019: The Center for Business and Policy Research's Jeff Michael was quoted in this story about the mega-region and growth in Tracy and Stockton. He said affordable housing is needed for the workers of some of the region's largest employers, such as the Safeway distribution center. "The homes being developed in Tracy are not being built for the typical distribution center workers," Michael told the Chronicle. "These are not homes that someone making $15 an hour can afford. ... As the Bay Area grows and grows, and gets more and more expensive, the impacts are stretching further and further out. Tracy used to be the edge. Now it's expanding further than that. It's definitely pushing the housing affordability issues into Tracy, Stockton and Modesto."

"Pacific marchers join young people around the world in Global Climate Strike," The Record, Sept. 21, 2019: Students, faculty and members of the community took part in a march across campus as part of the Global Climate Strike. The front-page story was accompanied by photos of students and faculty on campus. "You can't walk away and just forget about it," Christina Bouri '20, the student who organized the march at Pacific, told the crowd during a speech. "The world can't walk away and forget about it. Everyone participating in the 5,200 marches across the world can't forget about it."

"Family Day at the Park delivers 'natural joy' at Weber Point," The Record, Sept. 22, 2019: The University and several Pacific students were mentioned or in photos accompanying this story about the 22nd annual Family Day at the Parkat Weber Point in downtown Stockton. Students Zeeshan Khan, Julia Murillo, Caroline Burke-Baker, LaNee White and Nicole Marvel were shown interacting with children and reading to them. Powercat was there, as well.

"Energy drinks may harm your heart: Study," Journey Line (Jammu J&K, India), Sept. 23, 2019: Pharmacy's Sachin Shah and Kate O'Dell were interviewed for this story on the impact consuming energy drinks has on the body, especially the heart. "We found an association between consuming energy drinks and changes in QT intervals and blood pressure that cannot be attributed to caffeine," Shah told Journey Line. "We urgently need to investigate the particular ingredient or combination of ingredients in different types of energy drinks that might explain the findings seen in our clinical trial."

"Inland California Rising summit focuses on closing divide between haves, have-lesses," The Record, Sept. 21, 2019: Pacific's Stockton Campus played host to the Inland California Rising conference at which government, economic development, education and other leaders discussed the future of the region that stretches from Sacramento to the Inland Empire. Several top leaders from Gov. Gavin Newsom's office were on hand. "Right now, the economy is not working for the vast majority of Californians," Aneesh Raman, a top Newsom aide, told The Record. "We are both the richest and poorest state in the United States. Poverty is high, homelessness is rising, people are driving two hours each way to work. Our strategy is one of inclusion and sustained growth."

"Water law and engineering experts," "Insight With Beth Ruyak," Capital Public Radio (NPR), Sept. 18, 2019: Capital Public Radio's "Insight With Beth Ruyak" rebroadcast an appearance by McGeorge's Stephen McCaffrey and engineering's Mary Kay Camarillo as part of an hour-long program about the environment.

"'Making a difference starts with just one': United Way kicks off fundraising campaign," The Record, Sept. 19, 2019: Pacific's Stockton Campus was the site of the annual kickoff for the United Way of San Joaquin County's fundraising campaign. Alumna Kristen Birtwhistle '81, '87 was quoted in the story.
