Pacific welcomes new assistant professor of practice in clarinet
Brooke Miller
Brooke Miller joins the faculty at University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music as assistant professor of practice in clarinet, effective July 2026. She will continue building on the strong foundation left by Professor Patricia Shands who is retiring in May 2026.
Miller is an accomplished clarinetist and dedicated educator. Prior to her appointment at Pacific, she taught at Adams State University and throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. She is committed to guiding students toward becoming independent, well-rounded musicians who perform with a true sense of artistry.
As a performer and researcher, Miller is drawn to projects that amplify underrepresented voices and expand the boundaries of the clarinet repertoire. Her work has been presented at national and international conferences, including the International Clarinet Association, Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States, College Music Society, Nordic Society for Aesthetics and LaTex Electroacoustic Music Festival. Deeply engaged in contemporary music, she has collaborated on premieres, recordings and interdisciplinary projects throughout the United States and abroad. She is a founding member of Signal|Noise, an innovative duo for clarinet and live electronics that merges traditional chamber music ideals with modern performance practices. An orchestral musician at heart, she also maintains an active freelance career across the American Northeast, the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, Colorado and New Mexico.
Miller earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in clarinet performance from the University of North Texas, where she served as a teaching fellow. She also holds a Master of Music from Ithaca College, where she was a graduate assistant. She also holds a Professional Performance Certificate and a Bachelor of Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. Her primary teachers include Phillip Paglialonga, Richard MacDowell and Anthony Costa.
