Research, Clinical and Community Service Achievements Highlighted at OKU-Sutro Excellence Day

May 30, 2019

The Dugoni School family recently gathered to showcase and celebrate accomplishments in research, clinical dentistry and community service at the yearly OKU-Sutro "Excellence Day" event held on campus on May 22. The 21st Annual Pacific Research Day and 18th Annual Clinical Excellence Day featured poster presentations, case presentations with patients, a keynote speaker, and reception.

OKU-Sutro Excellence Day is a long-standing tradition that allows the Dugoni School community to share their projects with colleagues, friends and family. Although there is a competitive component, Excellence Day is a collaborative celebration of the multi-dimensional interests and talents of the Dugoni School of Dentistry.

OKU-Sutro Excellence Day activities are sponsored by the school's Omicron Kappa Upsilon chapter and the Dr. Henry A. Sutro Award Endowment.

The day started with a guest keynote lecture, "Profiling the systemic immunological consequences of periodontitis with single cell resolution" by Dr. Dyani Gaudilliere, clinical assistant professor of Surgery (Plastic Surgery), and chief of Dental Medicine & Surgery, and Dr. Brice Gaudillaire, assistant professor of Anesthesiology, both from Stanford School of Medicine.

Student presentations, research posters and clinical accomplishments in a variety of categories were then on display for judging throughout the school's clinical floors.

The winners will be announced at an upcoming class Brown Bag with Dean Nadershahi.

Clinical award categories will include Implant Dentistry, Endodontics, CAD/CAM, Supportive Therapies, Restorative, Removable and the Group Practice Clinical Grand Prize.

Research award categories will include the ADA/Dentsply Student Clinicians of the ADA Award, ADA Foundation/Colgate Dental Students, Hinman Symposium, AADR/Dentsply Sirona Award, AADR Annual Meeting Award, AADR-San Francisco Section Award, and the OKU DDS Excellence Award.

Leadership in community service will be recognized through the OKU Exemplary Leadership Award for Community Health. In addition, an award will be presented to recognize an outstanding Personal Instruction Program (PIP) project developed by graduating students.
