Students prevent five tons of waste from going into landfill

The Pacific Green Team is a community of student volunteers who are passionate about making a difference at Pacific!

During Pacific's Move-In and Week of Welcome at the beginning of the fall semester, Pacific Green Team volunteers helped prevent over five and a half tons of materials from going to the landfill.

The 20 student volunteers on the Pacific Green Team helped monitor waste stations at 12 campus events and assisted with recycling collection points in residence halls. As a result of their effort, more than 800 lbs of compostable material and 80 lbs of recyclables were diverted from the trash. Also in collaboration with Physical Plant staff, 5.6 tons of cardboard and other recyclables were collected at the residence halls.

Pacific Green Team was established in 2014 to help increase landfill diversion rates, particularly by helping with Move-In and Move-Out and at other university catered events.
