Viktoria Tamas Earns Back-To-Back NCAA Elite 90 Awards

Pacific women's water polo player, Viktoria Tamas '20, won this year's NCAA Elite 90 award for the 2019 NCAA Women's Water Polo Championships Thursday night.

A prestigious honor which recognizes student-athletes who have reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level as well as achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers, the award was presented to Tamas during the NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship banquet held at the Galen Center at USC.

A junior attacker from Kerepes, Hungary, Tamas carried a cumulative 4.0 grade point average during the academic year while majoring in Business Administration. This is the second consecutive award given to the third-year player who received the Elite 90 award during the Tigers' postseason run last year in the 2018 NCAA Championships.

Pacific has earned three of the last four Elite 90 titles in both men's and women's water polo as junior attacker Andrea De Nardi also earned the accolade for the men's 2017 season. While outside of the classroom, Tamas also made her mark in the water this season netting 17 goals, 25 assists, and helping the Tigers to their second Golden Coast Conference Title.

The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating on-site at the finals for each of the NCAA Championships. Only 90 NCAA student-athletes nationally are recognized for their combination of academic and athletics excellence each year. Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship.

The Pacific women's water polo team, ranked No. 8 in the latest CWPA Top 25 Poll, take on Stanford Friday, May 10, at 3:30 PM in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
