The Pacific community is invited to attend the screening of A Job in the Shade: The Emily Vasquez Story at The Guild Theater in Sacramento. The documentary profiles Judge Vasquez’s remarkable journey from the Central Valley to the Sacramento County Superior Court. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Judge Vasquez and the film’s producers.

JOTA is a solo performance that follows a young queer Mexican Indigenous woman as she navigates a pivotal moment of self-discovery and transformation. Created by multidisciplinary artist Katherine Bahena-Benítez, a playwright-in-residence with La Lengua Teatro at Brava Theater and member of the Miranda Family Fellowship's Slaywriting Cohort, the piece reclaims a term historically used to marginalize LGBTQIA+ communities and transforms it into a story of resilience and empowerment. JOTA was selected as one of only three U.S. productions featured in the prestigious REDELAE 2026 Catalog.

Dr. Hernández was selected by NASA to the 19th class of U.S. astronauts in 2004, flew aboard Space Shuttle Discover as the flight engineer on STS-128 in 2009 to the International Space Station and has participated in other NASA projects. He currently served as the CEO of Tierra Luna Engineering, LLC.
