Water Polo Skills and Tactics

Jump in the pool with our nationally ranked team and coaches

This camp will focuses on water polo skills, tactics, leadership, analytics and mental approach. It will combine in-the-water training and classroom learning. By the end of the camp, each participant will understand what is needed to be a Division I water polo player.

Curriculum

Participants will learn passing, shooting, driving and center play on offense. Defensively, they will be taught how to play in a press and zone for all positions. Finally they will understand some basic power play tactics for both offense and defense.

Planned Topics

Each day there will be some light conditioning of about 500 yards followed by ball work and fundamental leg work. The trainings will end with shooting skills practice with various tactics. In the classroom, players will be shown important data that will help them be more effective players and will have discussions to develop their leadership skills.

We will watch video to understand tactics, read passages from "Obstacle is the Way" by Ryan Holiday, use virtual reality to experience college level power plays and see data presentations in Tableau.

Head Water Polo Coach

James Graham is in his 14th season and 15th year as the men’s water polo head coach at Pacific. He is also in his 11th year as the head coach of the women’s water polo team and is the only individual in school history to coach both teams simultaneously. Compiling a combined record of 355-253 during his 14-year tenure with the Orange and Black, Graham has solidified his role as one of the most decorated and successful coaches in Pacific history.
