Diabetes care for the Stockton community.

In partnership with the Abbott Fund, the foundation arm of health care giant Abbott, University of the Pacific is proud to introduce the Abbott Fund Scholars program, which supports aspiring health care and social workers to combat the diabetes crisis in our home community of Stockton, California. 

Qualified students will receive a 50% tuition scholarship and specialized training in Diabetes Care and Management within Pacific's master's degree programs in Nursing, Clinical Nutrition and Social Work.

Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing

In this immersive two-year clinical training program, students prepare for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) through hands-on clinical rotations and challenging academic coursework in state-of-the-art simulation labs on Pacific's Sacramento campus.

Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition

Pacific's MSCN program is California's first Future Education Model Graduate Program, which includes 1110 hours of supervised experiential learning to meet the 2024 requirements for licensure as a Registered Dietetic Nutritionist (RDN). The 16-month program is offered in hybrid format, featuring coursework both online and in Sacramento, CA.

Pacific's accelerated MSW can be completed in just 12-16 months. Students will benefit from hybrid courses offered both online and in Sacramento, as well as hands-on field placements throughout Northern California.

What is the Abbott Fund Scholarship Program all about?

The Abbott Fund Scholarship Program is a partnership between University of the Pacific and the Abbott Fund, the foundation arm of the Abbott global healthcare company, to help combat the diabetes crisis in Stockton. The aim of the scholarship is to help get more well-trained health care professionals serving the Stockton community in the area of diabetes healthcare and management.     

 

Who is eligible for the scholarship?

To be considered for the scholarship, you must either live or work in the Greater Stockton area and demonstrate a desire to serve the Stockton area as a health care provider in the area of diabetes healthcare and management.

 

I live/ work near Stockton (Lodi, Lathrop, Manteca). Can I also be considered for this program?

Yes, if you live or work in the “Greater Stockton Area” (the City of Stockton and surrounding communities), you will be considered eligible for the scholarship.

 

How can I apply to the program?

The application process varies per program. Please check each program's application process below. 

 

When will I find out if I have been awarded the scholarship?

Acceptance decisions are announced prior to the beginning of your program. Check with your program to find out the exact decision notification date.

 

What are the requirements and commitments of the scholarship program?

You must also commit to working in Stockton post-graduation from your program, for a minimum of two (2) years. 

 

How will my study program be different as an Abbott Scholarship student?

As an Abbott Fund Scholarship recipient, you will complete coursework that helps you gain competencies diabetes prevention, management, and education. Additionally, you will be assigned a clinical adviser and complete your experiential learning with clinical partners in Stockton.

 

How much is the Abbott Fund Scholarship?

The scholarship covers up to 50% of the tuition fees of the eligible program you are enrolled in at Pacific (Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition, Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing, and Master of Social Work).

 

If I receive the Abbott Scholarship, will this reduce other financial aid I might also be eligible for?

Possibly. Receiving this scholarship will reduce your cost of attendance which could impact the amount of other financial aid you might otherwise be eligible to receive. For more information, contact our Sacramento Financial Aid Office.

 

When/ how will I receive the scholarship?

Once approved to receive the scholarship, you will receive the scholarship as a discount of up to 50% on the tuition portion of your bill for each academic term you are eligible to receive it.

  • Applicants must reside in the greater Stockton area and demonstrate intent to serve Stockton by accepting to complete the supervised clinical practice experience (SCPE) in organizations that serve the Stockton community.
  • Applicants must agree to work in Stockton upon graduation for at least two years, within their selected program area of interest (Clinical Nutrition, Nursing, or Social Work).
