Welcome to Counseling and Psychological Services!

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at the University of the Pacific provides a broad range of therapeutic services including group therapy, individual, couples sessions, informal consultations, and online assisted therapy for students experiencing emotional distress, anxiety, depression, adjustment concerns, and/or more serious mental health issues. CAPS also offers psychiatric medication management, crisis consultation, and preventative outreach/education on a variety of mental health topics.

A Message from our Director

Pacific CAPS wants to extend our support and commitment to the Pacific community as we navigate the impacts related to COVID-19. Reactions like fears, anxiety, stress, confusion, isolation, uncertainty, and depression may be common during this time.

CAPS has made sure that all of our therapists are trained in telemental health and have the necessary equipment to provide ethical, legal, and competent telemental health services to our students who are remaining in the state of California. For students who are not in California, we will help them find resources in their local area.  For more information about our Telemental Health Services, including our Tiger Talk virtual gathering support, please click here.

All students have access to our telephone therapist at 209.946.2315 x2 (during business hours ask to be transferred to our on-call therapist; after business hours wait for the CAPS voicemail and press 4 to be connected). Students also have access to TAO regardless of where they are residing. We have additional options for students such as crisis text lines/phone lines, helpful mental health apps, and specific support related to COVID-19 at Other Therapeutic Options.

We will be rolling out our telemental health support the week of March 30th and will be seeing students located in California remotely until restrictions are lifted. CAPS will be reaching out to current clients appropriate for telemental health services to set up these sessions.

Any students who have questions about mental health services, how to access them, or what the next step is in regard to their mental health can call 209.946.2312 x2 and speak to someone on the CAPS staff to get their questions answered. We will continue to put a lot of tips and strategies for managing mental health on our social media platforms InstagramFacebook, and Twitter.
