Gain a broad perspective of the world

At Pacific, you’ll study history alongside internationally recognized scholars who are passionate about teaching. Small classes mean more chances to participate, build relationships with classmates and connect with your professors. You’ll sharpen your skills in critical thinking, clear writing, source analysis and persuasion—abilities valued across industries—while gaining a deeper understanding of the past to better navigate today’s world.

Broaden your perspective

From the history of food to a close examination of modern Asian societies, the history department offers you a variety of classes that cover a wide range of themes. Some focus on specific time periods, while others take a regional approach. Pacific's faculty bring a broad spectrum of specialties to illuminate historical topics.

Experience-based learning

While earning your history degree, you will have many opportunities for learning outside the classroom. Gain real-world experience through internships at nearby museums or by presenting original research at national conferences. The program supports student-led projects and helps you find opportunities beyond campus.

Three-year degree option

You have the option to earn your history degree in three years. Plan ahead and you can finish in three years, which saves time, cuts tuition costs and allows you to start your career sooner. See a faculty adviser to assist you with planning.

Digital Humanities in Action
Little Manila Recreated

At University of the Pacific, students bring history to life through hands-on digital humanities projects. One example is Little Manila Recreated, which uses digital technology, the arts and sciences to build a virtual model of a once-thriving Stockton community that was lost to urban redevelopment nearly 50 years ago.
