Alumna returns as associate professor of practice for music therapy
Raquel Ravaglioli '14 joins the faculty at University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music as associate professor of practice and coordinator of music therapy and experiential learning, effective July 2026. Her 12-month position at Pacific is generously supported, in part, by a grant from Dignity Health.
Ravaglioli, PhD, MT-BC, graduated from Pacific with a Bachelor of Music in music therapy and a Bachelor of Music in music performance (violin). She completed her Master of Arts degree in creative arts therapies, with an emphasis in music therapy, at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. Her doctoral studies in the Individual Interdisciplinary Program at Ohio University combined higher education and counselor education to focus on the pedagogy of music therapy. This work resulted in a qualitative case study titled “Appreciate Practices in Music Therapy Education.”
Before returning to Pacific, Ravaglioli was the music therapist with Kaiser Permanente Care at Home Hospice team in San Diego, California. Previously, she served in higher education since 2018 as the director of music therapy, assistant/associate professor, developing two newly established music therapy programs. In 2015, she founded a sole proprietorship, Raquel Christine Music, which incorporates music therapy, music instruction and music performance.
Ravaglioli’s clinical and supervisory experiences include working with early intervention through adult-age neuro-divergent and neurotypical clients and service-users; in dementia and memory care residences; in behavioral health hospitals; for community re-integration programs; with Veteran groups; and in hospice settings. She has trained in NICU-MT, GIM level I and NMT.
Ravaglioli is published in Journal of Appreciative Education and Music Therapy Perspectives, and she regularly presents her research at international conferences.
As an undergraduate student at Pacific, Ravaglioli was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota and Alpha Phi, served as the conservatory senator for ASUOP and performed as concertmaster with the University Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, she served on the Pacific Alumni Association’s Board of Directors.
Ravaglioli continues to provide music therapy services internationally through various service projects in schools for deaf and hard-of hearing communities, infirmaries, children’s and group homes and for those who experience homelessness. She also performs violin throughout California with the Bear Valley Music Festival, the Stockton Symphony, the San Luis Obispo Master Chorale, the Topanga Symphony and various chamber groups.
To maintain a healthy work-life balance, Ravaglioli stays active with running, cycling, swimming and hot yoga. She also enjoys attending concerts and taking her dog to dog-friendly venues. In her new role at Pacific, she looks forward to supervising students in medical setting, building relationships with community partners in Stockton and continuing her research for further publications and conference presentations.
