California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to speak with Pacificans in virtual event

As the 2020 election enters its final week, California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will participate in “Pacific Talks Politics,” a virtual event sponsored by University of the Pacific’s Department of Political Science in conjunction with President Chris Callahan. Secretary Padilla will speak with Keith Smith, associate professor of political science, about the challenges of running an election in the middle of a global health pandemic, recent controversies, and what to expect once the voting stops and the counting begins.

Secretary Padilla was sworn in as secretary of state on Jan. 5, 2015. He is committed to modernizing the office, increasing voter registration and participation, and strengthening voting rights.
