Pacific student-athletes dominate beyond the scoreboard

Student-athletes at University of the Pacific competed for championships while simultaneously advancing their academic success this year, increasing their cumulative GPA from a 3.27 in spring 2024 to a 3.35 this past spring semester.
The success highlights the academic prowess of the Pacific Athletics program, which saw 282 of its 317 student-athletes earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2024-25 academic year—more than 88% of student-athletes at Pacific—while 124 earned a 3.5 or better. Cumulatively, 119 student-athletes have a GPA above 3.5.
Furthermore, 49 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring semester and 14 maintained a flawless 4.0 cumulative GPA.
“As we wrap up an incredible academic year, we’re thrilled to celebrate the academic success of our student-athletes,” said Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Development & Compliance/Senior Women’s Administrator Leslie Chang. “A cumulative GPA of 3.35 is something to be celebrated. Our hard working athletes were supported by our dedicated staff in student-athlete development and athletic compliance, as well as our campus partners in SSD, CARE Team and faculty advisors from across the colleges. Our Tigers are winning in the classroom, in their respective sports and in life.”
Of the 17 sports, 16 earned a team GPA above 3.0 this year and have a cumulative average above that benchmark. Four sports carry a cumulative GPA above 3.5, including women’s soccer, women’s cross country, men’s tennis and women’s track.
Six sports had at least 20 student-athletes earn a 3.5 GPA or above, including women’s soccer, women’s water polo, men’s water polo, baseball, softball and men’s soccer. The women’s cross country team recorded the highest GPA on campus with a 3.64 cumulative, while men’s tennis is the highest on the men’s side with a 3.59.
Every women’s sport on campus has above a 3.1 cumulative GPA. The department’s cumulative GPA among women’s student-athletes is a 3.42.
“No matter how many different ways we look at the numbers, it’s all impressive. Not only did our student-athletes break numerous records and win championships during competition, but they held themselves to the highest standards academically at one of the finest institutions in the state,” said Director of Athletics Adam Tschuor.
“I am proud of what our student-athletes were able to achieve athletically and academically this past year, and it’s a reflection of the overall character of the department, coaches and support staff. Our student-athletes have shown an overall commitment to success.”
Pacific was honored with 78 All-Academic selections from its respective leagues in the West Coast Conference, Golden Coast Conference and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, including 34 student-athletes on First Teams. The men’s and women’s water polo programs combined for 19 All-Academic First-Team honorees.
Pacific awarded 82 degrees to student-athletes at the spring 2025 commencement ceremony, an increase from the 75 who earned degrees in spring 2024.
