The University of the Pacific baseball program claimed its first win in West Coast Conference Tournament play Thursday night with an 8-4 win over No. 3 seed San Francisco, capped by a walk-off grand slam from Jake Tandy '29, adding another milestone to the program’s historic run.

Pacific, making its first-ever tournament appearance, would go on to compete in two more games at Scottsdale Stadium before being eliminated Friday.

In Thursday's game, the No. 2 seed Tigers (24-28-1, 15-11-1 West Coast Conference) loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning and Tandy saw one pitch, delivering the no-doubt shot to defeat the Dons (25-29, 15-12 WCC) in the second round of the tournament.

"It was a big win," said Head Coach Reed Peters. "Pitching wise, it was a great job by our starter Zach Todd ’29. We answered the call. Every time they scored, we scored. That's what good teams do. Tandy with the grand slam. Exactly what we needed.”

Tandy is no stranger to the heroics. It was his third career grand slam against the Dons and his second walk-off, having hit one April 18, 2025, at Klein Family Field.

"I was looking for a pitch over the middle of the plate," Tandy said. "I was ready for it and I attacked it. This is all the momentum we need going forward as a squad to know that we can do it and hang with the best of the best. We are going to keep it rolling."

Todd gave Pacific a quality start, going 6.2 innings and striking out five batters on five hits and allowing just two earned runs. Regan Carter ’29 picked up the program's first-ever victory in the West Coast Conference Tournament following Todd's outing.

The Dons struck first, but the Tigers responded immediately. Braeden Schnabel ‘29, who had a team-high three hits, and Grant MacArthur ’27 scored on Blaine French's ’27 two-RBI single to give Pacific a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second.

Following a game-tying home run by University of San Francisco, Pacific quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth. JT Shank ’29 knocked a two-run moonshot to right-center to put the Tigers back ahead at a 4-2 margin.

The Dons were able to rally and tie the game up at 4-4 in the top of the ninth, but Tandy ended the night with the walk-off grand slam to seal the deal. With four RBIs on the night, Tandy now has a career-high 49 RBIs on the season, which surpasses Jason Vorhauer in single-season RBIs at No. 10 on the list.

The Tigers went on to play No. 5 seed Saint Mary's Friday. The team fought hard but dropped its first third round game 10-7 before falling in an elimination game to No. 3 seed San Francisco, 10-6 later that night.

With a historic campaign behind them, the Tigers turn their attention to 2027.
