Grand Opening: Pickleball and Padel Complex
Grand Opening: Pickleball and Padel Complex
10:30 a.m.
Join University of the Pacific for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the grand opening of the first-ever pickleball and padel complex on an American college campus.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the U.S., nearly doubling in a year from 4.8 million players in 2021 to 8.9 million in 2022. Padel, played inside 12-foot glass walls, remains little known in the U.S. but is exploding in popularity across Europe, the Middle East and throughout the world. Pacific’s complex has eight pickleball and four padel courts. The announcement will include the first national tournament to be held at the site: the 2024 Chosen Foods Circuit Stockton Tournament. The tournament is sponsored by the United States Padel Association. Padel courts will be open to the public starting Monday, Feb. 26 after the tournament concludes.
On the day of the event, the pickleball courts will be open to the public to try out the sport free of charge. Reservations can be made for play starting Saturday, Feb. 24.
The new complex is located behind the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center on Pacific’s Stockton Campus. Parking is available in Lot 1 adjacent to the tennis facility. Parking fees are waived. (See the campus map)
