Kamayan Feast: Celebrating Filipino American History Month
Kamayan Feast: Celebrating Filipino American History Month
06:00 p.m. - 08:00 p.m.
We invite our community to an intergenerational Kamayan Feast in celebration of Filipino American History Month and LGBTQ+ History Month—a shared table where food, identity and collective care meet. Kamayan, a tradition rooted in eating with our hands and gathering around a communal spread, becomes a living expression of kapwa, the Filipino psychology of shared inner self. This event creates space to explore how kapwa expands when we honor queer and trans identities, challenge gender binaries and recognize the fluidity that has always existed in our cultures. Through conversation, storytelling and shared food, we’ll reflect on how Filipino communities—across generations—can practice kapwa in ways that uplift LGBTQ+ experiences and affirm belonging for all.
Participants will engage in:
- Intergenerational dialogue on gender, queerness and cultural memory
- Kapwa-centered reflection connecting Filipino psychology to LGBTQ+ identity
- Community building through shared food and shared stories
