The Bachelor's degree does not need to be in nursing.

What is the difference between and MSN and an MS?
An MSN is a master of science in nursing which requires graduate level nursing content. Pacific's midwifery program was built as an MS degree which avoids additional nursing content requirements allowing time for deeper midwifery education.
What if I already have a masters degree?
You may complete the MS in Midwifery program and earn a second master's degree. The midwifery program will consider applications for transfer credit on a case by case basis.
How long is the program?
The program is 2-3 years.
Is this an online program?
Pacific's MS in Midwifery program is considered a hybrid program.
When are applications accepted?
We accept applications twice a year, for an August or January start.
Can I work while I complete the program?
Yes, you can work while completing the program but part time or per diem work is recommended. Most didactic classes will be held during swing shift, allowing students to work either a day or a night shift the same day as class. Flexibility in your work schedule will be important, as you will be required to come to the Sacramento campus 1-2 days a month and clinical placements can be any shift, any day of the week.
Do I have to find my own clinical placements?
No, the MS in Midwifery program has a network of trusted facilities and preceptors spanning all of northern California.
Does the midwifery program prepare students to be a Certified Professional Midwife or a Certified Nurse Midwife?
Certified Nurse Midwife.
I want to be a midwife but I am not a nurse, what do I do?
You have two choices:
- Become a CPM.
- Attend the ELMSN program prior to the MS-Midwifery program.
