Men’s track student-athlete places first in conference championship
Jack Weber '27 won the individual title in the men’s mile, finishing more than three seconds ahead of the next runner.
Representing University of the Pacific atop the podium, third-year student Jack Weber ’27 turned the mile into a milestone for the men’s track and field program at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada.
Weber, a business administration major with a concentration in finance, was one of several Tigers competing in the program’s first-ever indoor conference championships across the two-day meet. He captured the individual title in the men’s mile with a time of 4:15.65, finishing more than three seconds ahead of the next runner to secure first place.
“It didn’t even feel real when I won,” Weber said. “I made the most of my run. I was lucky with how the other heat played out. It was a pretty surreal feeling. It was my first conference meet in track, so winning the first one was amazing.”
Weber’s victory came after he set a personal best of 4:09.95 earlier in the season at the Husky Classic in Seattle.
“I battled an injury leading up to this season, but everything’s been clicking for me recently,” Weber said. “I had some really good races in Washington, and I’m proud of the work I’ve put in here.”
First-year Head Coach Isaac Wood has guided the Tigers to several milestones and records during the indoor portion of the 2026 track and field season. Wood said Weber, a transfer from the University of Kansas, has elevated his work ethic and performance this year.
“His mile was a pretty redeeming moment,” Wood said. “Jack ran an incredible race. He’s found his place here at Pacific. For him and for our program, I’m so proud. To see him come back from an injury in the fall and win a conference championship is really rewarding. He’s already an all-time great in our program, but there’s a chance he could leave as the best ever.”
Weber earned 10 team points for his first-place finish in the mile at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships and helped Pacific tally 13 points overall for a seventh-place finish on the men’s side. The women’s team finished 13th in a highly competitive field.
As the Tigers shift their focus from the indoor season to the outdoor schedule, the team believes more milestones are within reach in the coming months.
“I’m excited about our mojo heading into the outdoor season,” Wood said. “Outdoor suits us well in terms of the events we’ll run. It will be great to see where we can end up. We’re going to chase more top-10 marks and records. I’m grateful for the buy-in from our athletes and the guidance from our assistant coaches who have worked hard with this team so far this year.”
