Hundreds of new and returning students, representing more than 30 states and nearly 20 countries, are beginning their first day of classes at University of the Pacific today after a packed week of activities celebrating the start of a new academic year.

Week of Welcome was filled with traditions, celebrations and opportunities for students to find their place in the Pacific community, from the energy of Tiger Roar—a confetti-filled walk across campus for new students—and the tradition of New Student Convocation to the Tiger Fair and a community block party.

Pacific’s move-in and orientation programs are designed to help students make meaningful connections from the moment they arrive. The week-long series of activities introduces new students to campus support services, encourages relationships with professors and classmates and creates opportunities to connect with the community.

Faculty, staff and alumni joined in welcoming students throughout the week, helping create a network of support designed to ease the transition to college. 

Week of Welcome by the numbers:

• More than 1,400 new and returning students moved into on-campus housing.
• Over 800 students attended orientation events.
• More than 600 students, faculty and staff volunteered at 16 local nonprofits during Pacific’s Day of Service boxing food, pulling weeds, painting benches and more—as part of the university’s value to serve the community.
• More than 500 students sang karaoke, played games and learned about Pacific clubs and resources at Tiger Fair
