JBEI’s mission is to establish the fundamental scientific knowledge and new technologies in feedstock development, deconstruction and separation, and conversion needed to transform the maximum amount of the polysaccharides and lignin available in bioenergy crops into biofuels and bioproducts. Inside JBEI’s Emeryville laboratories, researchers use the latest tools in molecular biology, chemical engineering, computational and robotic technologies, and pioneering work in synthetic biology to transform biomass sugars into biofuels and a variety of bioproducts. This presentation highlights the latest advances at JBEI in terms of bioenergy crops, deconstruction technologies and microbial production of advanced aviation fuels.About the Speaker: Dr. Blake A. Simmons is a leading American chemical engineer and bioenergy researcher specializing in sustainable biomanufacturing, biomass deconstruction, and renewable fuels and chemicals. Dr. Simmons serves as the Division Director of Biological Systems & Engineering at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), where he leads multidisciplinary efforts to apply biological and engineering principles to solve critical challenges in energy, biomanufacturing and biotechnology. In addition to his leadership role at LBNL, Dr. Simmons is the Chief Scientific and Technology Officer and Vice President of the Deconstruction Division at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) in Emeryville, California. Please make your reservation online.  We would appreciate your reservations before April 16.
