Permanently endowed scholarships and awards have been made possible through the charitable support of alumni and friends of Pacific’s School of Health Sciences.   

Chan Family Endowed Scholarship Fund for Physical Therapy

Pharmacy alumni Dr. Tony Chan and Regent Virginia Chan, with their children, who are also pharmacy alumni, created this scholarship in 2016 to assist students pursuing a career in physical therapy. The endowment is to provide support to one or more students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Dean’s Resilience Endowed Scholarship

The Dean’s Resilience Endowed Scholarship awards $2,000 to support a student from our diverse regional community who has demonstrated perseverance in overcoming significant challenges to pursue higher education. This award recognizes resilience and dedication by assisting students from the Central Valley or Northern California who show academic excellence, financial need, and a commitment to advancing the field of occupational therapy. Preference is given to students from historically underrepresented groups within the profession and/or their geographic area. 

Eligible applicants must be enrolled in the School of Health Sciences during the fall trimester.

HealthForce Partners

This scholarship was stablished by HealthForce Partners to help recruit and retain masters and doctoral students from San Joaquin County enrolled in the School of Health Sciences who are pursuing training, education and licensure in fields that work with stroke patients, including physician assistant, speech-language pathology and physical therapy. Each award will be $2,500.

Dr. Gregory Bard Endowed Physical Therapy Scholarship

Established in 1985, at the creation of Pacific’s physical therapy program, this scholarship was funded by Joan (Mitchell) Bard in honor of her husband, Gregory Bard ’35 COP, MD. Both Joan and Gregory were involved in the physical therapy profession. Dr. Bard earned his Doctor of Medicine from University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in 1947. He is considered a pioneer in physical therapy. 

Golden Bear Physical Therapy Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2018 by alumni Dr. Bobby Ismail ’94 and Dr. Brandon Nan ’09, co-owners of Golden Bear Physical Therapy and Sports Injury Center. This scholarship funds two annual scholarships: one for a first-year and one for a second-year Physical Therapy student. Each student must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and must have demonstrated a commitment to community service. Preference is given to students from the Central Valley. Scholarship may be renewed for the second year. 

Carolyn Hultgren Endowed “K.I.D.S.” (Kind, Intelligent, Dedicated, Student) Scholarship for Physical Therapy

This endowed scholarship was established in 2020 by Carolyn Hultgren, professor emerita of physical therapy and former PT Department Chair.  The scholarship is awarded to a first or second-year DPT student with a minimum GPA of 3.5 who has demonstrated interest in the California Physical Therapy Association.  

Dr. George H. Sanderson Endowed Scholarship for Physical Therapy

This scholarship was established in 2006 and is awarded to one or more physical therapy students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who are deemed deserving by the Office of Financial Aid. The Dr. George H. Sanderson Endowed Scholarship for Physical Therapy is awarded in memory of Dr. Sanderson by his family. Dr. Sanderson practiced medicine in Stockton for over 50 years. He was appointed physician at the College of the Pacific in 1926 and later was its orthopedic specialist. 

Hutto Patterson Endowed Scholarship in Physical Therapy

This scholarship, established in 2018, is awarded to one or more deserving incoming physical therapy students with a GPA of 3.75 or higher in undergraduate education and who have evidence of significant community service and a passion for continued service in the future. The Hutto Patterson Charitable Foundation was established in 1988 by Pacific alum Eileen Hutto and her sister Catherine Hutto Gordon. The purpose of the foundation is to provide access to education for students at all levels and health and welfare services for children.  The scholarship may be renewed for a second year.
