Pacific fall return and summer opportunities

Dear admitted Pacific students and families,

I am delighted to announce that University of the Pacific is planning to fully return to our beautiful campus this summer and fall to launch the new academic year!

We know how difficult the past year has been as you were forced to navigate – with virtually no notice – the tremendous health, safety, technological, financial and social challenges created by the global pandemic. Here at Pacific, I am enormously proud of our faculty and staff who overcame the many COVID-19 obstacles to continue undeterred our high-quality, personalized education our students so richly deserve. I am equally proud of our students, who fought through the COVID challenges with unwavering perseverance and remarkable adaptability. Our students simply refused to allow the pandemic to interrupt the single-minded pursuit of their goals and dreams through a Pacific education.

With COVID rates steadily declining and vaccine availability rapidly accelerating, we are confident about re-opening our classrooms, labs, clinics and studios, returning to our residence halls and once again providing our wide array of campus services and social, cultural and recreational activities and events in person.

It is too early to know what accommodations will be needed five months from now, but I can assure you that we are ready for all contingencies. We will, as we have since the pandemic started, base our decisions first and foremost on the health and safety of our students and campus communities, and continue to follow the best and most up-to-date guidelines from health experts and county, state and federal officials.

I can tell you that, in addition to our Fall Semester start in August, we plan to offer to all students – new and returning – the opportunity to come to campus five weeks early (starting July 19) to get acclimated to campus life and enroll in classes to get a head start on the new year. We think providing this opportunity is particularly important since so many of you had to finish high school in largely remote environments, relegated to living and learning in isolation from your friends and classmates.

If you have any questions, please contact Chris Ferguson, our vice president for enrollment, at cferguson@pacific.edu. You can also feel free to reach out to me directly at ccallahan@pacific.edu. Keep up on the latest at Pacific by following my social media channels on Instagram (@PacificPrezCallahan), Facebook (@PacificPrez) and Twitter (@PacificPres).

We look forward to welcoming you to the Pacific family in person in a few short months! In the meantime, stay safe and well.

Sincerely,

Christopher Callahan

President
